Physics chapter 5 Flashcards
Calculation of Pressure
Pressure= Force/Area
Formula for pressure in water
- Height x Pressure x Gravity
2. Height x Density x Gravity
Define hooks law
- The extension is proportional to the force
2. Springs will go back to its original length when the force is removed as long as we don’t exceed the elastic limit.
Formula for Force using a spring
Spring load x Extension of spring
Define pressure
Continuous physical force exerted on or against an object by something in contact with it.
Si unit for pressure
Pa
Function of Manometer
To show the difference in pressure between two glasses or liquids
Describtion of Manometer
- A u-shaped tube with a small amount of liquid
- When both ends are open, the levels of the water are the same.
- If one side is connected to gas supply, the gas is pushed down on the liquid forcing it round the bend. The unequal level is te differance in pressure.
What instrument is used to measure atmospheric pressure
Barometer
Formula for impulse
Force x Time
Formula’s for Acceleration
Ft= m X change in velocity
Acceleration= change of velocity/ time
