Physics chapter 1 Flashcards
Name the instrument used to measure length
A ruler
What is the vernier calipers used to measure
They are used to measure the inner and outer breadth of rods and domains, and thickness of any sort of object
Micrometer gauge use
It is used to measure even smaller dimensions than the vernier calipers
name the two scales of the micrometer gauge
The circular circle and the main/sleeve scale
What is the range of the micrometer screw gauge
The percision of the micrometer screw gauge is 0.01mm or 0.001cm
The formula for volume of regular objects
Width x Height x Length
How is the Displacement method used to measure volume.
- Fill the graduated cylinder with adequate water.
- The object has to be fully submerged in the water when place.
- Record the volume of the water prior to submerging the object and label A
- Record the volume after submerging the object and label B
- Subtract the the reading A from B and that’s the volume of the object
Formula for Density
Mass/Volume
Why do some objects float on water
because their density is lower than water
How does a submarine stay afloat on water
It uses ballast tans filled with compressed air.
When wanting to sink, they let the water into the tank which increases density and they sink, if they then decide to float they will push the water out and bounce back up due to the low density.
Definition of density
The ratio of mass to volume of a substance
What is an oscillation in a pendulum
A complete to and from motion from the bobs.
What does the speed of the oscillation depend on
The speed depends on the length of the string, as the longer the string is the more time it takes to swing and the shorter the swing the faster.
