Q

Waves at boundaries btwn mediums

A

The speed of a mechanical wave does not depend upon the
amplitude (V = λf)
The speed depends upon the property of the medr um. Ex speed in water depends upon depth.

Q

Constructive Interference

A

-When two or more waves are both the same (crest/crest or trough/trough)
- the resulting wave is a wave with a longer amplitude than any of the individual waves

Q

Destructive Interference

A

-When two or more waves have different orientations (crest/trough) meet
- the resulting wave has a smaller amplitude than any of the individual waves
- If they are the exact same size the resulting displacement is zero (for that istant in time)
