Physics 6 Flashcards
Transverse Waves
causes wave particles of a medium to vibrate perpendicularly to the direction of propagation (motion) of waves
Longitudinal Waves
causes the particles of a medium to move parallel to the direction of the wave
Surface Waves
A mixture of transverse and Longitudinal waves that travel on the surface of a medium. Especially like on ocean surfaces. they consist of both parallel and perpendicular motion.
Period
T
The time it takes to get from a crest to crest or trough to trough for examples. The time it takes for the wave to repeat itself
Travelling Wave
A travelling wave moves along a medium
Wave Pulse
A single disturbance that travels through a medium
Frequency
f
the # of complete vibrations per second, measured at one fixed point. The unit for frequencys hertz (Hz). One Hertz is one vibration per second.
