Physical Science Flashcards
Radiation
The emission of energy as EM waves.
Convection
The movement caused within a fluid by of hot material to rise and cold to sink due to gravity.
Conduction
The process by which heat or electricity is directly transmitted through a substance when there is a difference of temperature.
Physical properties
Any property that is measurable and whose value describes a state of the physical system.
Physical change
This is a change that occurs when objects undergo a change that does not change their chemical composition.
Chemical properties
A property of a material that become evident during or after a chemical reaction.
Speed
The rate at which someone or thing is able to move.
Velocity
The speed of something in a given direction.
Force
The energy as an attribute of physical action.
Friction
The resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving over another.
Newtons 1 law
The law of inertia: an object in motion stays in motion and an object at rest stays at rest.
Newtons 2 law
The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the magnitude of the force.
Newtons 3 law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
