Physical Science Flashcards
Radiation
Heat transferred through electromagnetic waves
Convection
Heat transferred through a gas or liquid
Conduction
Heat transferred through two objects touching
Newtons 1st Law
When an object is in motion it wants to stay in motion. When an object is at rest it wants to stay at rest forever. This is called inertia.
Newton’s 2nd Law
When two forces on an object are balanced the object doesn’t move. When the forces are unbalanced it will cause the object to accelerate.
Newton’s Third Law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Chemical property
properties of a substance that are only observable during a chemical reaction.
Chemical change
When two substances form a new substance
Physical change
Is a change is matter in which the type of matter stays the same. During a physical change only the physical properties of the matter change
Physical property
Something you can observe with your senses and it doesn’t change the chemical nature of matter
Friction
The resistance between two objects rubbing together
Speed
How fast an object is able to move
