Testicular Torsion

A

Surgical emergency!

  • ground pain; the testicle has wrapped itself around the vas deferens
  • scrotum: red, warm, swollen
  • nausea, vomiting
  • they have to go in and surgically unwind the testical and then sew it into the scrotal sac
  • can lose testicle if blood circulation is gone too long

Epidydimitis

A

Inflammatory reaction of epididymus in testicle

Causes: STIs, chemical irritant (soap), local trauma (can cause blue ejaculate b/c the RBCs are met with the sugars in the testicle

Treatment:

  • antibiotics for STIs
  • scrotal support/pillow
  • pain meds

Pregnancies

A

Continues to lower for all populations

Contraception: the less you know someone, less likely you are to use contraception
-as the duration of the relationship increases, the use of contraception increases, they don’t want to have a baby with that person.

Mother-infant relationship with thrive:

  • if reaches educational level of 10th grade or more
  • relationship with father (but usually rocky)
  • monetary access (but daycare is expensive)
  • need family support
  • if she gains successful child rearing skills
  • developmental delay of infant if mom is always on cellphone and dependent on cognitive stimulation of infant

Father-Infant Relationship

  • most have some level of interaction with child
  • has positive effect on mothers self esteem
  • decrease in mothers stress
  • if maternal grandmother encourages father involvement, relationship will thrive
