must ‘tax’ the system
specificity
designed to meet goals of program
recovery
allow time for body to adapt
FITT Formula
F - Frequency
I - intensity
T - Time
T - type
The Warm-Up
- start with light aerobic activity
increase blood flow to working muscles
gradual increase in HR& BP
Increase body temp- warm the muscles - stretching
stretch the soft tissues
prevent injury, muscle soreness
improve flexibility
the cooldown
Active recovery - the gradual return of HB and BP to baseline
1. a light jog or tapering of activity
prevents blood poooling
aids in removal of lactic acid
- Stretching
improves flexibility and prevents muscle soreness
