Photosynthesis Pt 2 Flashcards
What does the carbon from CO2 create
Carbohydrates/Glucose
What does H2O produce
O2/ Carbon dioxide
explain Relationship between light reaction and calvin cycle
The 1-light reaction takes in H2O and creates the by-produce O2 and with that, it creates ATP and NADPH
2- The ATP and NADPH go into the Calvin cycles but the Calvin cycle only takes in 1 phosphate and 1 hydrogen creating ADP and NADP which then get recycled back into the light reaction
3- The 1 phosphate and 1 hydrogen and CO2 together in the calvin cycle then create CH2O/ sugar
PSII produces
ATP
PSI produces
NADP^+ + H^+
What happens in PS II
1-you take away hydrogen from H2O turning it into oxygen
2- Due to breaking those 2 hydrogen bonds 2 electrons are released into PS II
3- The 2 electrons then go into the electron transport chain which then enter PS I
4- The 2 electrons then go and produce NADPH
Chemiosmosis
Using the proton motive force to help the enzyme/ ATP synthase to make ATP
3 phases of calvin cycle
1- Carbon fixation phase
2- Reduction phase
3- Regeneration phase
Carbon fixation phase
1- RuBP/ 5 carbon sugar plus CO2 make PGA/ 3 carbon sugar
Reduction phase
1-ATP loses a phosphate then becomes ADP
2-NADPH loses hydrogen and then becomes NADP
3- The one phosphate that was taken from ATP and 3 carbons make G3P
Regeneration phase
1- ADP becomes ATP creating the 5 carbon sugar starting the cycle again
Antenna
Brings the light in then the light travels through antenna pigment until they reach the reaction center
Photons
Excite electrons to travel to the reaction center
