photosynthesis in plants Flashcards
What is the word equation for photosynthesis in plants?
Carbon dioxide + Water ->(light/chlorophyll)-> glutose + oxygen
(6CO² + 6H² -> C⁶H¹²O⁶ + 6O²)
Why is photosynthesis important to all living organisms?
Its the process where the plant makes its own food so the plant can get eaten by an animal and so on. It’s basically the food chain
Where does photosynthesis happen in plants?
In the chloroplast and leaf cells (palisade layer)
When does photosynthesis happen in plants?
In light
What do plants do with the glutose made by photosynthesis?
Some glutose that is left over is used in respiration as plants respire all the time. Some glutose is converted into starch and other substances for storage. Some glutose is also used to make new chemicals such as fat, sugar and protein which is needed in order for the plant to function properly.
Where in a plant is light absorbed by?
From chlorophyll which is in leaf cells
Where in a plant is carbon dioxide absorbed by?
From the air which is taken in through the stomata and the underside of leaves
Where in a plant is water absorbed by?
From the soil which is taken in by plant roots
