Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Flashcards
Photosynthesis
A series of chemical reactions that convert light energy, water and carbon dioxide into the food-energy molecule glucose and give off oxygen
Eco System
All the living things and nonliving things in a given area.
Cellular Respiration
A series of chemical reactions that convert the energy in food molecules into a usable form of energy called ATP
Glycolysis
A process by which glucose, a sugar, is broken down into smaller molecules.
What’s the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide + water, using light energy = Glucose + Oxygen (6CO2 + 6H2O using light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2)
What’s the equation for cellular respiration?
Glucose + Oxygen, using light energy = Carbon dioxide + water + ATP (C6H1206 + 6O2, using light energy = 6CO2 + 6H20 + [ATP])
What are the stages of cellular respiration
Step 1: Glycolysis; this takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell.
Step 2: This takes place in the mitochondria of the cell and uses the products of glycolysis.
What is ATP
ATP is an energy storage molecule that our cells can use to power cellular processes.
What is the difference between plant cells and animal cells
Plant cells carry out both photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
Animals cells only carry out cellular respiration.
