Photosynthesis Flashcards
The light dependant reaction
Uses lights to make ATP and NADH, in Thylakoids, also called photo phosphorylation
The light independent reaction
Uses products of LDR to make useful organic products, in stroma, also called Calvin cycle
What is the grana
Stack of thylakoid
Describe the steps of the light dependant reaction
Chlorophyll absorbs light energy.excites the electrons high leave chlorophyll.electron moves along electron transfer chain. Electron releases energy. Energy used to make ATP. NADPH.
What is the light independent reaction also known as
The Calvin cycle
Describe the Calvin cycle
CO2 combines with RuBp catalysed by rubisco. Makes 2x GP. GP is reduced to make TP. Using 2xNADPH and 2xATP. The TP is regenerated to RuBp
What are the 3 limiting factors of photosynthesis
Light intensity, co2 concentration, temperature
How is light a limiting factor
The higher the light intensity the more energy there is for the LDR to take place to the faster the rate of photosynthesis
How is co2 the limiting factor
CO2 is commonly the limiting factor during the day, above a certain level the co2 has a negative effect on the rate of photosynthesis
How is temperature a limiting factor of photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is controlled by enzymes, if you increase ten you increase the rate of reaction up to the optimum, beyond the optimum the rate decreases
