Photosynthesis Flashcards

1
Q

What is the process of photosynthesis?

A

Light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll in the chloroplasts

This energy is then used to convert CO2 and H20 into glucose for respiration - oxygen is a by-product

Q

How is CO2 a limiting factor?

A

Insufficient CO2 means less photsynthesis can happen as there is less CO2 to react with the water

Q

How is Light Intensity a limiting factor?

A

Less energy to react CO2 and H2O with, reaction slows with low light

Q

How is the leaf structure adapted for photosynthesis?

A

They have a large surface area, so they can absorb more sunlight
They are also thin, so CO2 doesn’t have to diffuse far
Stomata allow entrance of CO2 also
