Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the process of photosynthesis?
Light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll in the chloroplasts
This energy is then used to convert CO2 and H20 into glucose for respiration - oxygen is a by-product
How is CO2 a limiting factor?
Insufficient CO2 means less photsynthesis can happen as there is less CO2 to react with the water
How is temperature a limiting factor?
Too hot - No photosynthesis
Too cold - Less photosynthesis
How is Light Intensity a limiting factor?
Less energy to react CO2 and H2O with, reaction slows with low light
How is the leaf structure adapted for photosynthesis?
They have a large surface area, so they can absorb more sunlight
They are also thin, so CO2 doesn’t have to diffuse far
Stomata allow entrance of CO2 also
What are magnesium ions used for in a plant?
Creating chlorophyll
What are nitrate ions used for in a plant?
Creating amino acids
