Photosynthesis Flashcards
1
Q
Stages of photosynthesis (and where do they occur)?
A
- Light dependent reactions (thylakoid membrane)
- Light independent reactions (Calvin Cycle) (stroma)
2
Q
Where does the photon go?
A
Hits a reaction center in Photosystem II and hops around, gaining energy, until it reaches chlorophyll a
3
Q
Summarize LDR
A
- Chlorophyll a oxidised, electron moves to electron acceptor and then down ETC
- Reaches PS I, goes to another electron acceptor and down another ETC with Fd (ferrodoxin)
- NADP reduced by NADP+ reductase
4
Q
Which enzyme is used in Calvin Cycle + its purpose?
A
RuBisCO (ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase).
It adds carbon to Ribulose Bisphosphate
5
Q
Structure of RuBP?
A
Pentose sugar + 2 phosphate groups
6
Q
What is produced during the Calvin Cycle and how long does it take
A
G3P is produced after 3 cycles. Therefore total of 6 cycles required to make glucose
7
Q
What are the limitig factors of photosynthesis?
A
- Carbon dioxide
- Temperature
- Light intensity & quality
- Nutrients
