photosynthesis Flashcards
photosynthesis occurs in what organelle
chloroplasts
whats a granum
stack of thylakoid
`where is chlorophyll found
thylakoid membrane
whats chlorophyll
pigment that absorbs light
what is photolysis. Is it in the light dependent or light independent cycle
break down H2O to O2, light dependent
What are two things that the light dependent rxns make
it makes NADPH and ATP
after NADPH and ATP is made in the light dependent stage what happens?
they are used to convert CO2 into glucose
the calvin cycle is in the light dependent or independent stage
light independent
where does the light independent reactions occur? what about the light dependent?
dependent: in the thylokoid of the chloroplast
independent: in the stoma of the chloroplast.
what are the two photosystems?
II=P680 (680 nm) I=P700 (700nm)
phtosystem II is used for
turning H20 to O2
where are protons being pumped in the non cyclic and cyclic photophosphorylation
in the thylakoid luman
what does it mean to fixe carbon
turn inorganic to organic ( CO2 to glucose)
does fixing carbon happen in the light dependendent or independent reaction
independent
how many cycles are in calvin cycle to make 1 glucose
6
what is photorespiration
it is when rubisco binds to oxygen and does not create glucose and waste needs to be carried out with peroxisomes. the plant looses carbon
where does the calvin cycle happen in spartial isolation to prevent photorespiration
it happens in the bunndle sheath cells (in C4 photosynthesis)
where does photosynthesis happen in spartial isolation to prevent photorespiration
it happens in the mesophyll cell
In temporal isolation what happens and what cells are involvd
stromata open during the night to allow oxygen to escape the plant…. at night it closes
when does the Calvin cycle happen in temporal isolation to prevent photorespiration
during the day
what is C2 photosynthesis
it is photorespiration
what is C3 photosynthesis
normal photosynthesis that can not prevent photorespiration
what is C4 photosynthesis
preventing photorespiration by seperating the places that photosynthesis happens ( in the mesophyl) and calvin cycle (bundle sheath cell)
what is CAM photosynthesis
preventing photorespiration by sepreating the time the calvin cycle happens. During the day the stomata closes to prevent oxygen from coming out and during the day it opens to let oxygen out.
