Photosynthesis 1 And 2 Flashcards
1
Q
Photosynthesis Stage I
A
- also known as light dependent reaction
- uses light energy —> water is split into hydrogen and oxygen and ATP and NADHP are created.
ATP and NADPH is used in the Calvin Cycle (photosynthesis stage 2)
- happens in the Thylakoid discs inside the cholroplast
- by product is Oxygen
.

Q
Photosynthesis Stage 2
A
- Stage II is called the Calvin cycle.
- light independent cycle (dark reaction)
- occurrs in the stroma/stromata
The second stage of photosynthesis is the production of glucose from carbon dioxide.
This process occurs in a continuous cycle, named after its discoverer, Melvin Calvin.
The Calvin cycle uses CO2 and the energy temporarily stored in ATP and NADPH to make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesis is a two stage process.
Takes 6 turns of the Calvin cycle for 1 molecule of glucose
3
Q
Where does photosynthesis 1 occur?
A
In the chloroplast within the Thylakoid disc (granna which are stacks of thylakoid discs)
4
Q
Where does photosynthesis 2 occur?
A
In the Stroma part of the cholorplasts
