Phospholipids Flashcards
What are they made up of?
Glycerol
2 fatty acids
Phosphate group
What part of the phospholipid is polar?
The phosphate group (hydrophilic head)
Why does oil form a droplet in water?
The triglycerides have hydrophobic tails. They clump together, with tails in the middle and hydrophilic head facing outwards.
Why does oil float?
The hydrophilic head is attracted to the surface of the water
Where in a cell will you find phospholipids? What does this do?
The cell membrane had a bilateral of phospholipids, they act as a barrier to osmosis and H2O movement
Where is cholesterol found? What does it do?
In the cell membrane, provides strength and stops cell from freezing
Where are phospholipids found?
In the cell membrane
