“Tahafut al-Tahafut” or “The Incoherence of the Incoherence”:
is a detailed and careful refutation of al-Ghazzali’s earlier work “Tahafut al-Falasifa”. In this work Ibn Rushd was primarily concerned in defending Aristotle rather than Ibn Sina against al-Ghazali.
Is the world created in time as held by al Ghazali or is it the product of eternal immanation as in Ibn Sina’s philosophy.
Ibn Rushd disagreed with both on this issue?
- Al-Ghazali’s view is inconsistent with the doctrine of divine omnipotence.
2 Ibn Sina’s view contradicts with Aristotelian philosophy which provided the scientific world view of the time.
For him the world is the product of divine creation from all eternity.
On the view of the eternity of the world:
ibn rushd cited the Qur’an in support of his view of “eternal creation”
