What PPE is required when working on the flight line?
Steel-toed boots, cranial, goggles and leather gloves.
What is a runway?
Paved area used for aircraft takeoff and landing.
What are threshold markings?
Parallel stripes (12ft wide and 150ft long) on the ends of a runway that designate the landing area.
What is an overrun area?
Paved or un-paved section on the ends of a runway. Used to provide a deceleration area for aborting or overshooting aircraft.
What is an MA-1 Series Overrun Barrier?
A barrier designed to stop tricycle landing gear equipped aircraft not equipped with tail hooks.
In case of an aborted takeoff or an emergency overrun landing. The MA-1 Series Overrun barrier is always in what status?
Standby
What is the purpose of emergency shore based recovery equipment?
Used during in-flight emergencies that require stopping the aircraft in the shortest distance possible during landing. To minimize the chance of injury to pilot or aircrew and damage to the aircraft
What is a taxiway?
Paved area used for aircraft to move between parking aprons, runways and airfield services.
What is a parking apron?
Open paved area adjacent to hangars, fuel and other services (often called the flight line). Used for parking, servicing and loading aircraft.
What is a compass calibration pad (compass rose)?
Paved area in a magnetically quiet where the aircraft compass is calibrated.
How are runways numbered?
Runways are normally numbered in relation to their magnetic heading rounded off to the nearest 10 degrees.
For two runways whose center lines run parallel. What designator, along side their magnetic heading is used to identify them?
L or R
What is an airfield rotating beacon?
A rotating beacon used to identify airports day or night in below visual flight rules (VFR) weather conditions.
Military airfield rotating beacons are identified by what?
One green and two white rotating lights.
