Phase 1: Block 4 - Occupational and Personal Saftey Flashcards
What are the five steps in the ORM process?
Identify hazards, Assess hazards, Make risk decisions, Implement controls, Supervise.
What is Operational Risk Management (ORM)?
A five step decision making process used to identify and manage hazards.
How are hazards identified in ORM?
By analyzing all major steps in an operation then listing the hazards associated with each step along with possible causes for those hazards.
How are hazards assessed in ORM?
By determining the probability and severity of identified hazards.
How are risk decisions made in ORM?
Beginning with the most serious risks, develop control options to reduce/eliminate hazards then determine if risk outweighs benefits or vice versa and if assistance is required.
How is supervision carried out in ORM?
By evaluating controls implemented and monitoring operations for changes (requiring further ORM).
What are the three different classes of mishaps?
Class A, B and C.
What is a class A mishap?
A mishap resulting in two million dollars in damages or more; or an injury/occupational illness resulting in a fatality or permanent total disability.
What is a class B mishap?
A mishap resulting in five hundred thousand dollars in damages or more; (but less than two million) or when three or more personnel are inpatient hospitalized.
What is a class C mishap?
A mishap resulting in fifty thousand dollars in damages or more (but less than five hundred thousand); or a non-fatal injury/illness that causes loss of time from work or disability.
What is the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program?
A last line of defense in the event of equipment breakdown/failure/misuse, hazardous environments and working conditions that would immediately expose a worker(s) to harm.
What BASIC types of PPE are used in Naval Aviation?
Cranials, eye protection, hearing protection, impact protection, gloves and foot protection.
