Pharmacology - Drugs (histamine, Glutamate, cholinergic) Flashcards
Give 2 examples of histamine drugs that work on the H1 and H3 sites?
HYDROXYMINE
MECLOZINE
Give an example of a histamine drug that works on the H2 site?
FAMOTIDINE
Give 2 examples of direct acting glutamate antagonists drugs?
MEMANTINE
KETAMINE
Give an example of an indirect - acting glutamate antagonist
LAMOTRIGINE
Give an example of a direct acting cholingeric drug that binds at nicotinic receptors?
NICOTINE
- counters cravings for cigarettes.
Give an example of a direct acting cholinergic drug that binds to muscarine receptors?
BETHANECHOL
- increases bladder emptying.
Give 3 examples of a indirect acting cholinergic drugs.
DISTIGMINE
- stimulated GI tract motility and increase bladder output.. Used post - op to counter muscle relaxant effects.
DONEPEZIL
- Promotes brain/memory function. Used as a therapy for senile dementia’s such as Alzhemiers Disease.
PYRIDOSTIGMINE
- increases muscle contraction for muscle wasting diseases such as Myasthenia Gravis.
Give 2 examples of drugs that are direct acting cholinergic blocking with peripheral therapeutic actions.
ATROPINE
- ‘antidote’ to mushroom poisoning. GI tract muscles being relaxed.
TOPICAL BELLADONNA
- should relax muscles. Used to relieve symptoms of rheumatism arthritis and stress.
Give an example of a drug that is a direct acting cholinergic blocking drug with central therapeutic actions.
BENZTROPINE
- relaxes muscles so can reduce muscle tremors in Parkinson’s.
Give an example of an indirect acting cholinergic blocking drug.
Botulinum Toxins (BOTOX)
- Used in cosmetic surgery to paralyse the muscle.
