Pharmacology Flashcards
0 order kinetics
Constant amt of drug eliminated regardless of dose
Drugs that do not pass thru liver first
Sublingual and rectal
1st order kinetics
Drug eliminated proportional to dose
Gout
Caused by build up of uric acid- end product of purine metabolism
Treatment for gout
Colchicine- Antiinflamm, binds tublin, no migration
Indomethacin- anti inflamm
Allopurinol- xanthine oxidase inhibitor- for over producers
Probenecid - inc renal secretions for undersecreters
GI Drugs
Promethazine: phenergan: tardive dyskinesia tx: benedryl
Metoclopramide: reglan: dopamine blocker- can increase gastric motility
Ondansetron: zofran: serotonin rec inhibitor
Ompreazole: proton pump inhibitor- block H/ATPase in stomach
Cimetidine: histamine blocker- dec acid in stomach
Octreotide: somatostatin analog
Cardiac drugs: digoxin
Digoxin: inhibit Na/K, inc myocardial Ca Slows AV conduction Inotrope Dec BF to intestine-mes ischemia Hypokalemia Not cleared w/dialysis SE: yellow vision, arrhythmia
Cardiac drugs: procainmide
SE: lupus like synd, pulm fibrosis, torsades
(Tx torsades with Mg)
Follow QT intervals
Ace inhibitors- pril
Best to reduce mortality in CHF
Prevent post CHF MI
Prevent renal failure progression
Can cause renal failure in renal artery stenosis
