Pharmacological Managment Of Airway And Lung Diseases Flashcards
Antihistamine Agents
Action: ↓ nasal congestion, mucosal irritation
MOA: blocks effect of histamine
PT implications: OH
Anti-inflammatory Agents
Action: prevent inflammatory bronchoconstriction, reduce airway edema
MOA: inhibiting production of inflammatory cells, suppress release of inflammatory mediators, reserve capillary permeability
PT implications: correct use of inhaler, rinse mouth after use, should not be used for acute asthma episodes
Brochodilator Agents
Action: relieve bronchospasm
MOA: stimulates smooth muscle relaxation receptors OR blocking bronchoconstriction receptors
PT Implications: take before therapy and bring short acting rescue meds
Expectorant Agents
Action: ↑ respiratory secretions, loosen mucus
MOA: ↓ secretion viscosity,↑ sputum volume
PT Implications: perform airway clearance techniques 1 hour after administration
Mucolytic Agents
Action: ↓ secretion viscosity
MOA: altering mucus composition/consistency
PT Implications: perform airway clearance techniques 1 hour after administration
