Pharmacodynamics Flashcards
pharmacodynamics
study of biochemical, physiologic and molecular effects of drugs on the body
what the drug does to the body
selective drug excretion
is the degree to which a drug acts on a given site relative to other sites
pharmacodynamic influences
disorder or disease
genetic mutations
malnutrition
receptor theory
how drugs actually exert their effect once they reach the action site
direct drug action
drug combines with a receptor on a target organ and produces a response
indirect drug action
the dresired response results from an activity that occours secondary after the drugs primary action
agonist
molecules occupy a receptor and activate them
antagonist
molecules occupy a receptor but do not activate them
partial agonist
drugs which bind to and activate a given receptor but only have partial efficency
