-Elderly patients with dementia are at increased risk of death

do not eliminate salt, avoid caffeine, takes effect in 2 to 3 weeks, no alcohol, no NSAIDS, no diuretics, no anticholinergics
Teaching for patients on phenobarbital
- no ETOH or CNS depressants, decreased effects of oral contraceptives (OCP)
-schedule IV drug; teratogenic
-drowsiness, respiratory depression
Overdose: tachycardia, hypotension, shock
Withdrawal symptoms: anxiety, tremors, delirium, seizures
Adverse effects on patients on SSRIS (antidepressants)
-dizziness, drowsy, GI, sexual dysfunction, weight gain
-monitor mood; watch for serotonin syndrome GI distress, sleep disturbance high temperature

-strong or aged cheese, cured meats, smoked or processed meats, pickled or fermented foods, soy beans, snowpeas, overripe or dried fruits, alcohol
