Vital signs to check before giving beta blockers
-Assess HR+BP
Beta blockers reduce cardiac workload by slowing heart rate

-Use the bronchodilator “reliever” first
-take beta agonist (albuterol) before corticosteroid (fluticasone)
-wait 5 minutes between meds

-prothrombin time (PT)
-activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT)
What can help pts. taking Niacin w/ side effects such as flushing
-give aspirin 30 minutes before med to prevent flushing
-take with meals

-ETOH, opioids, CNS depressants cause increase sedation

-bradycardia, hypotension, headache, edema, dizziness, flushing, constipation

-breakdown of muscle tissue that releases damaging protein into the blood

-rhabdomyolysis
-headache, GI complaints, muscle pain, hepatoxicity
When should you apply and remove a nitro patch
-give on an empty stomach
-use gloves with the paste or a patch
-remove at HS to prevent tolerance
-rotate sites
