Pharm Test 5 Drugs- Cholinergic Antagonists Flashcards
Atropine
antimuscularinic
- belladonna alkaloid
- Cardiac dose dependent (low dose lowers HR)
- eye dilation, dry mouth, less sweat, increase HR, help with heart impulses
- enters CNS
Scopolamine
antimuscularinic
- similar to atropine, but longer duration
- motion sickness, ear patches
- enters CNS
Iptratropium
(Atrovent) antimuscularinic
- positive charge derivative of atropine, but no CNS
- inhaled, helps with COPD, bronchodilation
Benztropine
(Cogentin) antimuscularinic
- treats Parkinson’s tremors (para has taken over), so we want to decrease para
- enters CNS
Glycopyrrolate
(Robinul) antimuscularinic
- peptic ulcers
- decrease saaliva, give to stomach before surgery
Nicotine
ganglionic blocker
- low dose stimulates nicotinic receptors
- high dose blocks them- and so brain makes more neurotransmitters= feels good
- enters CNS
- no effect at NMJ
Vercuronium
non depolarizing neuromuscular blocker
-44 min duration- shorter time to recover
Cisatracurium
(Nimbex) non depolarizing neuromuscular blocker
-90 min duration- longer time to recover
Pancuronium
(Pavulon) non depolarizing neuromuscular blocker
-90 min duration
Rocuronium
(Zemuron) non depolarizing neuromuscular blocker
-44 min duration
Sugammadex
(Bridion) non depolarizing neuromuscular blocker REVERSAL
- surrounds blockers and inactivates
Succinylcholine
(Anectine, SUX) depolarizing neuromuscular blocker
- prevents vomit during surgery, endotracheal intubation
- side effects- hyperthermia, hyperkalemia, apnea
