Tolerance and physical dependence May develop. Abrupt withdrawal can be life threatening except with brown, signs includes sweating, agitation, trimmers, nausea and vomiting, delirium, and seizures
Nursing intervention:
Instruct patient not to stop taking the drug abruptly. Assess the patient for signs of developing tolerance educate the patient about symptoms of withdrawal. contact the doctor immediately if symptoms of withdrawal are assessed
Drowsiness, confusion, lethargy are the most common side effects.
Nursing intervention:
Instruct patient not to drive or operate dangerous machinery while taking this medication.
Effect of other CNS depressants are increased.
Nursing intervention:
instruct the patient not to drink alcohol or take other CNS depressants, as well as antihistamines, cimetidine, antidepressants, neuromuscular blocking agents, and disulfiram, while taking anti-anxiety agent
Anti-anxiety agents May aggravate symptoms of depression
Nursing intervention:
Assass the patient’s mood and assessed for suicide risk
Orthostatic hypotension May occur.
Nursing intervention:
instruct the patient to rise slowly from a sitting to standing position to minimize risk of falls. Monitor laying and standing blood pressure to assess for orthostatic hypotension
Paradoxical excitement (opposite from the desired effect)
Nursing intervention:
Hold the medication and notify the doctor. it says for other side effects and safety issues including impaired cognition and impaired mobility. Use a self-centered collaborative team approach to explore options and safe management of anxiety and insomnia
Blood dyscrasia
Nursing intervention:
Assess for sore throat, fever, bruising, or unusual bleeding. Hold medication and report these symptoms immediately to the doctor.
