Hormones Flashcards
Contraction of the uterus for labor and release of breast milk
Oxytocin
Stimulation of secretion of needed thyroid hormones for metabolism and regulation of temperature.
TSH thyroid stimulating hormone
Stimulation of milk production
Prolactin
Simulation of secretion of melatonin
Melonocyte stimulating hormone
Simulation of secretions of estrogen, proestrogen and testosterone. Rule and ovulation and sperm production.
Gonadotropic hormones
Stimulate secretion of cortisol which plays a role in response to stress.
Adrenocorticotropic hormone
Growth and children and protein synthesis in adults
Growth hormone
Conservation of body water and maintenance of blood pressure
Antidiuretic hormone
In altered hormone secretions this may play a role in stress response by stimulation of ACTH
Oxytocin
An altered hormone secretion this can cause depression with increased levels
Melonacyte stimulating hormone
While altered hormones secretions occur can result in polydipsia, altered pain response, modified sleep pattern
Antidiuretic hormone
Decreased levels of this hormone can lead to depression and anorexia nervosa while increased testosterone leads to increased sexual behavior and increased aggressiveness
Gonadotropic hormones
Altered hormone secretions of what can lead to anorexia nervosa
Growth hormone
Increased levels of this hormone cause depression, anxiety, decreased libido, and irritability
Prolactin
Decrease levels of this hormone cause depression, apathy, and fatigue while increased levels of this hormone cause mood disorders and psychosis
Adrenocorticotropic hormone
