pharamacodynamics summary Flashcards
1
Q
describe the difference between affinity, efficacy, and potency of agonist
A
- affinity refers to the strength of the binding between agonist and receptor
- efficacy- the ability of the agonist to activate the receptor and produce a response
- potency - the concerntrattion of an agonist required to produce specific effect
2
Q
explain the difference between full, partial and inverse agonist
A
- full = activate the receptor fully and produce a maximal response
- partial = activate the receptor and produce a submaximal response
- inverse agonist = bind to the inactivate state of the receptor and reduce the constitutive activity
3
Q
explains the general classes of anatagonism
A
- competitive = competes with the agonist to bind to the receptor
- irreversible = irreversibly binds to the receptor so that the agonist can not bind
4
Q
define the effect of competitive and irreversible competitive on the agonist dose response curve
A
- competitive antagonism shifts it to the right without affecting the maximal respsinse
- irreversible = reduces the maximal respsinse of the agonist
5
Q
how is the schild plot and equation used to quantify antagonism
A
- the school equation is used to determine the anatagonistbptency and affinity
- the schilds plot is a graphical representation of the equation which allows the determination of the antagonists PA2 value
