Q

Explain the process of phagocytosis

A

“Phagocyte is attracted to chemicals from pathogen/damaged body cell
Receptors on phagocyte cell surface membrane recognisea nd attached to chemicals on surface of pathogen
Phagocyte engulfs pathogen to form vesicle (phagosome)
Lysosomes move towards phagosome and fuse with it (phagolysosome)
Lysozymes (enzymes) in lysosome hydrolyse pathogen
Soluble products of break dodwn of pathogen absorbed into cytoplasm of phagocyte”
