A high arch of the foot

What is the most common type of pes cavus and when is it seen?
A
Pes cavovarus
Seen primarily in neuromuscular disorders such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease

What is the predominant cause of pes cavus?
A
Unbalanced muscular forces
Weak intrinsic foot muscles are overcome by the extrinsic muscles

What to look out for in clinical presentation ?
A
Ankle varus (heel turns in) Lateral weight bearing on foot High arch Ulceration Heel pain

Why are these people more prone to ankle injuries?
A
Hindfoot varus increases the risk of ankle inversion injuries as there is increased moment on the ankle

What could be consequences of lateral overload?
A
Fractures of the fifth metatarsal
