What type of disorder is Achilles Tendinopathy?
A
Degenerative disorder - overuse causes a process of micro trauma or tendon degeneration, leading to inflammation

Describe the Epidemiology of AT
A
- Common in distance runners
- Men>Women
- more likely to affect older athletes

A
- Transmits force
- Absorbing external forces to limit muscle damage

What are some extrinsic factors to AT?
A
Changes to training programme; Increasing intensity; Surfaces; Schedule; Shoes

What are some intrinsic factors to AT?
A
- Tendon vascularity, gastrocnemius-soleus dysfunction, age, gender, body weight
- Lower extremity malalignment; High arch; Flat foot; limited dorsiflexion; Pronatory type foot; Lateral ankle instability

Complaints of AT:
A
PAIN
Acute: Beginning and end of training
Chronic: Pain during all exercise and interfere with daily activities

Clinical presentation of AT:
A
- Diffuse swelling
- Tenderness on palpation, 2-6 cm proximal from tendon insertion
- Pain in full plantar flexion
