- Older people have more life experience than younger people, therefore, they have a more holistic view

- Females are typically more health conscious than males
- Females: exercise and diets, prioritise mental health, more holistic views, easily more influenced by body image.
- Males: focus more on dieting, less likely to perceive themselves as being at risk of illness, injury or other health problems.

- Prioritise not only an individual’s health and well-being but its contribution to their community
- Experience connectedness
- Community: a sense of belonging= less likely to participate in risk-taking behaviours
- Family: more support=lower chance of illness or death (e.g: suicide)

Western Cultures: view H&WB within the context of health professionals
Asian Cultures: the wellbeing of family>individual well-being, decided by the elder male of the family
Chinese Culture: use herbal medicines, and prioritise herbs+food to recover.
Indian Culture: spiritual practices and traditional medicines.

- Majority of religions focus on the mind and body (spiritual health and wellbeing
- Buddhism: clarity of the mind
- Hinduism: prioritise physical health and well-being, help the needy (welfare)

- Don’t prioritise health and wellbeing
- Prioritise: survival, food education, and steady employment
- Barriers: low income, bills, limited health knowledge
- e.g: cheaper foods = processed = negative effect on physical health and wellbeing.

- Concepts of health and well-being is dependent on an individuals stage of life:
- Younger ages: identified H&WB as having a good diet
Over 16: mentioned aspects from the physical dimension (exercise) as well as social H&WB (social relationships with friends+family) - Young people develop a more holistic view as their life experience grows
- Mental H&WB is a major issue for youth (self-esteem and body image)
