Define Health (WHO)
What is a limitation?
The state of complete physical, mental and social health and well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.
Does not take into account all 5 dimensions of health and well-being.
Define Health (ATIS perspective)
What is a strength?
Not only the physical well-being of an individual but refers to the physical, cultural and emotional well-being of the whole community in which each individual is able to achieve their full potential as a human being therefore, bringing out the total well-being of their community.
- Focuses on both an individual and a communities health and wellbeing.
Define Sociocultural
The social and cultural conditions in which people are born, grow live work and age.
Define Health Status
Provide some aspects
Individuals’ or populations’ overall health takeing into account various aspects.
- Life expectancy
- Amount of disability
- Levels of disease risk factors
Health Indicator
Standard statistics used to measure and compare health status.
Define Incidence
the rate or number of new cases of a condition in a given time.
Define Prevalence
The total number of cases of a condition at a given time. (pre-existing)
Define Admission
Entry of a patient into the health care facility.
Define Separation
Leaving hospital care. Can be for transfer, discharge or death.
Define Health Literacy
Include an example
Relates to how an individual accesses, understands and uses health information to benefit their health and wellbeing
- E.G: If a person goes to their GP they should be able to walk in and understand everything they are saying, why they may or may not be needing a prescription etc. without any confusion or needing to ask questions.
