Personality assessment Flashcards
credible personality tests must have
validity and reliability
2 main categories of personality tests?
structured personality test
projective tests
describe structured personality tests
pen to paper; likert scales (1-5)
examples of structured personality tests
minnesota multiple personality inventory test
california psychological inventory
rationally / theoretically constructed tests
california psycholgoical inventory
descrbes more normal personality traits
-similarity between scales
describe rationally/theoretically constructed tests
begin with a trait then create items to assess the trait
describe minnesota multiple personality inventory 1
- 10 basic scales, most which assess mental disorders
- each has 2 criterion groups (having disorder or not)
- > focus on whether items distinguish between having disoder or not, not why. so little face validity
describe minnestoa multiple personality inventory 2
has 3 validity scales
- lie (denying trivial facts)
- frequency (doing things that normal members of the community dont endorse)
- correction (above)
what do validity scales measure
- response sets (tendency to distort responses)
- impression management
- malingering
advantages and disadvtanges of minnesota multiple personality inventory
reliable and valid for differentiating between mental disorders
different scales are similar and potentially redundant

not asking questions —> circumvent deence mechanisms
