Cognitive development Flashcards
Describe Vygotsky’s theory

Scaffolding: someone sets up a learning environment for the child as if they’ve already learned it
emphases role of social interaction!
Did piaget believe in stage like or continuous view of cog dev?
stage like.
why did piaget believe cognitive changes could occur
due to children wanting to achieve equilibriation: balance between experience of the world and understanding of the world
2 ways through which equilibriation can occur?
assimilation
accomodation
4 stages?
sensorimotor stage 0-2
pre orperational stage 2-7
concrete operational stage 7-12
formal operational stage 12-
describe sensorimotor stage
about the immediate world around them
object permanence
goal directed behaviour
describe pre operational stage
can mentally represent thing
abstract thinking
egocentrism and decentring
describe concrete operation stage
categorisation
conservation
describe formal operational stage
logical/abstract thinking`
