define personality disorder
enduring pattern of inner experiences and behaviour that deviates markedly from the expectatins of individuals culture
many people will have triats i.e. shyness or jealousy. why is this not considerd a personality disorder?
not a disorder unless it is pervasive and causes disress/impairment of functioning

what are the cluster A personality disorders?
(odd and eccentric)
paranoid- distrust and suspicious
schizoid- detahcment form relationships, restricted range of expression of emotions
what are the cluster B personality disorders?
(dramatic and emotional)
antisocial- disregard and violation of others rights from age 15
borderline- instability of interpersonal relationships, impilsivity
histrionic- excessive emotionality and attention seeking
What are the Cluster C personality disorders?
(Anxious and Avoidant)
avoidant- social inhibtiion, feelings of inadequacy, hypersensitive to -ve evaluation
dependant- submissive and clinging behaviour, fears of seperation
obsessive compulsive- orderliness, perfectionism, mental and interpersonal control
what is the ICD-10 criteria for anorexia?
BMI <17.5
self-induced weight loss
body image disturbance
fear of becoming fat
amenorrhoea
what are some methods of weight loss?
micromanagement of food
calorie counting
intense exercise
induced vomiting
laxatives
what are some physical signs of anorexia nervosa?
muscle wasting
lanugo hair
cold, blue peripheries
dry skin
hypercalacaemia
why is ALT sometimes raised in those with anorexia nervosa?
due to breakdown of the liver
why does food need to be reintroduced slowly in a pateint with anorexia nervosa?
refeeding syndrome

yes- only in emergency and for max 48hrs, then need assessed by second doctor
define Bulimia
persistent preoccupation with eating- people wil binge then purge
what is the signs seen in somone who regularly purges themselves by inducing vomiting?
russels sign- knuckles
parotid hypertrophy
