PERITONEUM Flashcards
Which nerves supply the visceral peritoneum?
- Autonomic innervation
- Vagus nerve
- Sympathetic innervation
Which nerves supply the parietal peritoneum?
Spinal nerves from T10-L1
What does the visceral peritoneum drain into?
PORTAL VEIN
What does the parietal peritoneum drain into?
INFERIOR VENA CAVA
What is the visceral peritoneum supplied by?
Superior and inferior mesenteric arteries
What is the parietal peritoneum supplied by?
Abdominal wall vasculature, including the iliac, lumbar, epigastric, and intercostal arteries
What is a mesentery?
Double fold in the peritoneum that attaches the intestine to the posterior abdominal wall
What are the two types of mesenteries?
True: These attach to the posterior abdominal wall
The small bowel mesentery
The transverse mesocolon
The sigmoid mesentery (or mesosigmoid)
Specialised: These don’t connect to the posterior abdominal wall
The greater omentum: connects the stomach to the colon
The lesser omentum: connects the stomach to the liver
The mesoappendix: connects the apendix to the ileum
What are omentum’s?
Fold in the peritoneum that connects the stomach to other organs
Also has roles in immune regulation and tissue regeneration
What are ligaments?
Double folds in the peritoneum that pass from one organ to another or from an organ to the abdominal wall
