Blood stasis (sits there)
Vessel wall damage
Hypercoagubility state (increased clotting factors)
Palpation and auscultation of carotid artery
Palpate: rate, rhythm, amplitude, symmetry
Auscultate: for bruit have them hold breath
JVD
Stand on pt right side and turn head to the left
Begin in supine and look ffor jugular veing filling
Then move HOB to 30-45 degrees
Juguar probably not visible. If it is then located top of distended vein
Grading pulses
1=weak thready
2=normal
3=normal more full
4=bounding strong
Check rate, rhythm, amplitude, symmetry
Allen test
Check vascular efficiency of ulnar and radial artery
-thumbs occlude both arteries
-have them make a fist
-release one artery and have them release fist
-color should return in 3-5 seconds
Edema
1=2mm
2=4mm
3=6mm
4=8mm
Venous insuffiency
Dull achy pain
Warm
Edema
Red ruddy discoloration
Varicose veins
Sores with uneven border
Assess DVT/homans sign flex foot check for pain
Arterial insufficiency
Intermittent claudication
Cold extremities
Poor wound healing
Hair loss, slow nail growth
No pulse, or weakened
Round, smooth sores on foot
Intermittent claudication
Muscle pain that happens when youre active but stops when you rest
