Describe the clinical presentation of arterial occlusive disease.
atherosclerotic disease of the arteries supplying the lower limb
Describe the clinical presentation and progression of venous disorders.
Look- ulceration, pallor and hair loss
Feel- temperature, capillary refill time, peripheral sensation, pulses
Identify the possible surgical interventions for the treatment of arterial occlusive disease.
angioplasty, surgical bypass, stent placement
describe ABPI
ankle brachial pressure index
ankle pressure/ brachial pressure
describe buergers test
elevate legs and check for pallo, hang legs over bed and if they are slow to regain colour sign of peripheral artery disease
imaging to investigate disease
duplex scan- dynamic, no radiation, not good in abdomen
CTA/MRA- detailed, contrast and radiation however can overestimate calcification
angiogram
acute limb ischaemia
embolus, blood clot, air bubble, fatty deposit
history of acute limb ischaemia
cardiac history, onset of symptoms, risk factors for CLI
risk factors of CLI
male, age, smoking, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes
Fontaine classification
stage 3 and 4 are critical limb ischaemia
