cardiomyopathy Flashcards
dilated cardiomyopathy
ventricular function is dilated and impaired. Can be a primary problem or the end result of an insult to the myocardium.
symptoms of dilated cardiomyopathy
progressive with a slow onset, dysponeoa, fatigue, ankle swelling
narrow pulse pressure, JVP elevated, displaced apex, MR murmur and s3+4 sounds, pulmonary oedema
restrictive and infiltrative cardiomyopathy
describes physiology of filling and myocyte relaxation capacity and systolic function may be impaired
ventricle walls have reduced compliance
hypertrophy cardiomyopathy
impaired relaxation and systolic function usually adequate. caused by a gene defect and not everyone expresses the same phenotype
hypertrophy cardiomyopathy symptoms
asymptomatic for many, angina like pain syncope related to arrhythmias
notched pulse pattern, irregular pulse, double impulse over apex

myocarditis
acute or chronic inflammation of myocardium. can be associated with pericarditis.
infiltration of inflammatory cells into myocardial layers reducing function. heart block as conduction system is involved
pericardial disease
inflammation of the pericardial layers with a long list of causes
symptoms of pericardial disease
chest pain with pleuritic features and sitting forward makes it worse, fever,
