Perception Flashcards
laws of perception
-pragnaz no-good continuation -proximity -symmetry -similarity -connectedness -familiarity -common fate
Pragnaz
-Objects are seen as simply as possible e.g. 5 overlapping rings
Good continuation
-Figures with smooth continuous path are more likely to be seen as distinct e.g. overlapping circle and square
Proximity
-Physically close items are grouped
Symmetry
-Symmetrical images form groups e.g. brackets
Similarity
-Objects with the same shape, color or size are grouped e.g. color blindness tests
Common fate
-Objects that move in the same direction are grouped together
Familiarity
-Things that form familiar or meaningful patterns are likely to be grouped together e.g. in the hillside. Hard to unnotice
Connectedness
-Things that are physically connected are grouped together
Figure and ground properties
- Figure is in front and smaller than the ground, it is also more object like and more memorable.
- The ground is unformed and extends beyond the figure.
- E.g. reversible figure-ground patterns e.g. vase or face demonstrates these properties.
