Perception Flashcards
Spectral colors
a color comprised of a single wavelength
non-spectral colors
more than one wavelength
additive mixing
increase the amount of light reflected
subtractive mixing
reduce the amount of light reflected
Hue
variations described by names such as red, blue, etc
saturation
purity, vividness of colors
Trichromatic theory
any hue can be matched with a combination of the 3 primary colors
opponent processes theory
staring at an image for a while creates an opposite image if stare at blank space
contrast sensitivity
ability to distinguish between bright and dim components of image
Parts of perceptual organization
proximity - elements close together
similarity - elements with similar characteristics
continuity - elements in a straight line
closure - open curves perceived as complete forms
common fate - elements moving in same direction at same speed are perceived together
proprioception
ability to feel what your muscles are doing and where your limbs are
vergence
degree to which the eyes are turned inward to maintain focus
interposition
nearer objects will block the view (overlap) of distant objects if in same line of vision
binocular disparity
each eye receives a slightly different image
induced motion
a stationary background causes movement to be attributed to the wrong part of a scene
