what is a major sign and symptom of peptic ulcer?

A

gnawing, sharp pain in or to the left of the midepigastric region occurs after eating 1-2hours after a meal

and hematemesis for gastric
melena for duodenal

Client education
- avoid alcohol & substances
- avoid smoking & NSAIDs
- obtain adequate rest & easy in the food

Interventions during active bleeding
- monitor vital signs closely
- assess for hemorrhage / shock
- monitor H&H
- administer blood transfusion if needed
Surgery can be an option but watch out for dumping syndrome

  • the rapid emptying of the gastric content into the small intestine that occurs following a gastric resection
  • symptoms are 30mins after eating
  • vomiting
  • borborygmi ( loud gurgling sounds )

Education ^
Avoid big meals
Avoid alcohol and caffeine
Lie down after 20-30mins to prevent emptying
