- helped to organise the Pan-African Congress in Manchester in 1945
- 1947: was elected as leader of the Kenya African Union
- 1963: became Kenya’s first PM and the became President
-> had numerous places named after her like Kenyatta Airport

- 1947: Nkrumah was invited to work for the United Gold Coast Convention Party
- 1949: formed his own Convention People’s Party
- him being re-elected as PM in 1956 Britain saw it as a sign to leave
