    -> inspired others to fight for equal rights leading to the passing of the Race Relations Act in 1976

Encouraged by the Amritsar Massacre of 1919
- 1930 Salt March -> invited him to London to start negotiations on the Government of India Act
- 1942 Quit India Campaign

  • in 1947 India and Pakistan gained independence as a result

Jomo Kenyatta

A
  • helped to organise the Pan-African Congress in Manchester in 1945
  • 1947: was elected as leader of the Kenya African Union
  • 1963: became Kenya’s first PM and the became President
    -> had numerous places named after her like Kenyatta Airport

Kwame Nkrumah

  • organised the Pan-African Congress
  • 1947: Nkrumah was invited to work for the United Gold Coast Convention Party
  • 1949: formed his own Convention People’s Party
  • him being re-elected as PM in 1956 Britain saw it as a sign to leave
