the penis undergoes erection, becoming engorged with blood

what happens post emission?
ejaculation can occur
what happens during ejaculation?
semen moves out of the urethra through the external urethral orifice
what happens to the penis post ejaculation?
the penis undergoes remission, returning to a flaccid state
function of the penis in micturation?
It contains the urethra
function of the urethra?
carries urine from the bladder to the external urethral orifice - where it is expelled from the body
what is the anatomical position of the penis?
erect
what is the dorsal side of the penis?
closest to the abdomen
what is the ventral side of the penis?
closest to the testes
how can the penis be divided anatomically?
into 3 parts:
root, body, glans
what is the root of the penis?
The most proximal, fixed part of the penis
where is the root of the penis located?
in the superficial perineal pouch of the pelvic floor - not visible externally
what is the superficial perineal pouch?
A potential space between the perineal membrane superiorly, and the perineal fascia inferiorly
what does the root of the penis contain?
contains three erectile tissues and two muscles
what are the 3 erectile tissues contained within the root of the penis?
two crura and bulb of the penis
what are the 2 muscles contained within the root of the penis?
ischiocavernosus and bulbospongiosus
what is the body of the penis?
The free part of the penis
where is the body of the penis located?
between the root and glans
where is the body of the penis suspended from?
the pubic symphysis
what is the body of the penis composed of?
three cylinders of erectile tissue – two corpus cavernosa, and the corpus spongiosum
