Pelvis Flashcards
1
Q
Bones of the pelvis
A
- Pelvic bone
> Ilium
> Pubis
> Ischium - Sacrum
- Coccyx
2
Q
Male vs female bony pelvis (bone thickness, pubic arch/angle, acetabula, sacrum, coccyx)
A
- Bone thickness
> M = heavier, thicker, more prominent markings
> F = lighter, thinner, smoother - Pubic arch/angle
> M = 50-60°
> F = 80-90° - Acetabula
> M = large, closer together
> F = small, farther apart - Sacrum
> M = narrow, longer, sacral promontory more ventral
> F = wider, shorter, sacral curvature is accentuated - Coccyx
> M = less movable, curves ventrally
> F = more moveable, straighter
3
Q
Palpable landmarks of the pelvis
A
- Pubic tubercle
- Anterior superior iliac spine
- Iliac crest
4
Q
2 muscles of the lateral pelvic wall
A
- Obturator internus
- Piriformis
5
Q
What is the pelvic floor made of?
A
- Pelvic diaphragm
- Perineal membrane
- Muscles within deep perineal pouch
6
Q
Components of pelvic diaphragm
A
- Levator ani
> Iliococcygeus muscle
> Pubococcygeus muscle
> Puborectalis muscle - Coccygeus muscles (1 each side)
