Pelvic/lower abdo pain Dyspareunia Abnormal vaginal discharge Fever IMB

Pelvic tenderness
Cervical excitation/tenderness
Fever
Abnormal discharge

How is suspected PID investigated?
A
Pregnancy test
STI screen
Urine dip
Bloods
- FBC
- U&Es
- CRP
- Cultures

How is PID managed?
A
Refer to GUM - contact tracing
Antibiotics
- 1g IM ceftriaxone
- 100mg PO doxycycline BD 14 days
- 400mg PO metronidazole BD 14 days
Abstain from sex until abx complete

What are complications of PID?
A
Subfertility Sepsis Chronic pelvic pain Increased risk of ectopic pregnancy Fitz-High-Curtis syndrome

What is Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome?
A
Perihepatitis due to peritonitic spread of PID
Presents with RUQ pain
