Pelvic counterstrain Flashcards
Psoas TP Location
2/3 from basis to midline
a-p
Psoas TP Tx
frogleg
hip flexion ~<90
external rotation
sidebending towards
Psoas TP m
Psoas Major
Iliacus TP Locaton
1/3 from asis to midline
a-p and lateral
Iliacus TP Tx
Frogleg
marked hip flexion
external rotation
Iliacus TP m
iliacus in the iliac fossa
Low Ilium TP Location
Superior surface of the iliopectineal (iliopubic) eminence
a-p
Low Ilium TP Tx
Marked ipsilateral hip flexion • Fine tuning with – External rotation of the thigh – ADDuction – ABDuction
Low Ilium TP m
psoas minor
Inguinal Ligament TP Location
Medial aspect of the inguinal ligament near the pubic tubercle
l-m
Inguinal Ligament TP Tx
Flexion of thighs with contralateral thigh crossed over ipsilateral thigh. Ipsilateral lower leg pulled laterally to create slight internal rotation of the hip on the affected side
Inguinal Ligament TP m
pectineus
Piriformis TPLocation
Midpoint between the lower half of the lateral aspect of the sacrum’s Inferior Lateral Angle and the greater trochanter
Piriformis TP Tx
peeing dog
lots of flexion
abduction
fine tune with IR and ER
Piriformis TP m
Piriformis
Posterior Lateral Trochanter TP Loc
Superolateral aspect of the posterior surface of the greater trochanter
Posterior Lateral Trochanter TP Tx
pt prone ph same side
• Extension
• Marked external rotation
• Abduction if needed for fine tuning
Posterior Lateral Trochanter TP m
Probably another piriformis
High Ilium Sacroiliac TP Loc
2-3 cm lateral to the PSIS, pressing medially toward the PSIS
High Ilium Sacroiliac TP Tx
- Hip extension with
* fine tuning in abduction and external rotation
High Ilium Sacroiliac TP m
• Depending on the depth of palpation, may be related to the gluteus maximus or gluteus medius
High Ilium Flare-Out TP Loc
• Lateral aspect of the ILA and/or lateral aspect of the coccyx
High Ilium Flare-Out TP Tx
- Patient prone
- Can be done (as in textbook) by standing on opposite side, holding leg of affected side just below the knee and pulling it over the midline
- Hip extension (of the ipsilateral leg, enough to clear the leg on the unaffected side)
- Adduction
- External rotation, slight, on occasion (especially if the TP is located closer to the ILA)
High Ilium Flare-Out TP m
– Probably sacrospinous or sacrotuberous ligaments
Lateral Trochanter TP Loc
Along the iliotibial band distal to the greater trochanter
Lateral Trochanter TP Tx
Moderateabductionof the thigh, slight flexion
Lateral Trochanter TP m
IT band maybe sensor fascia lata
